Texas Destiny (Zebra Lovegram Historical Romance)
Published in Paperback by Kensington Pub Corp (Mass Market) (August, 1994)
Author: Dana Ransom
Average review score:

An Exciting and Unpredictable Love Story
As a big fan of Dana Ransom aka Rosalyn West aka Nancy Gideon, she truly out does herself with this one! Texas Destiny, the second installment of the Bass family series, is by far the most heartfelt page turner I have ever read. The lead character is Jack Bass, a Texas Ranger with a tough spirit and tender heart. He meets Emily Marcus in the aftermath of an Indian ambush. From the very first sentence of this book, the excitement is nonstop. The story boast so many twists and turns that at times you are truly breathless. The events unfold with such perfection thanks to Ms. Ransom's amazing story telling. This book has it all, realistic romance, convincing dialogue, intense action, and best of all..little touches of humor inserted at just the right time. Both characters have darkness in their pasts, Jack even more so. I do suggest reading the first book of the Bass family(Temptation's Trail)which introduces Jack's uncle, tracker for the Texas Rangers. With only a few years apart in age, Jack and Harmon remain close through out the whole series, the darkness of their pasts intertwining. And believe it or not, Emily Marcus has a tie in there as well, even though she had never met Jack or Harmon before.

The story picks up and doesn't stop. I recommend it to all Western/Historical romance fans. Indian beliefs and traditions are involved, Jack's mother and uncle being half Apache. Jack and Emily fall in love quick, the hard part is overcoming the odds. You'll laugh, you may cry, mainly..if you pick up this book, you'll be hooked. Just be careful, Jack Bass is very easy to fall in love with. Enjoy!!

Texas Empires: Longhorn
Published in Mass Market Paperback by Leisure Books (February, 2000)
Author: Evelyn Rogers
Average review score:

Texas Series To Top Them All!
A very fitting end to the 'Texas Empire' series. Madeleine Hardin fled to Texas to escape the horror of what had happened to her in New Orleans. In the wild land of Texas, Maddy tries to realize her dream of running a cattle ranch, the Longhorn, alone. But a lot of dreams died during the Civil War, and Maddie is afraid hers did too--until a Yankee soldier shows up. Daniel Kent had been fascinated with the beautiful Maddie, but he never knew why she fled New Orleans. Now he has a chance to know her again, but Maddie is different. Life has changed her in a lot of ways. Dan has to admit he loves Maddie, but can he accept everything that happened to her? And what about the secret she's keeping from him? Evelyn Rogers' books continually and without exception delight her readers. Longhorn finishes the Texas Empires series with Maddie's story, a romance which certainly satisfies and finishes off what happens to all of the Hardin family and their loves in the wild free land of Texas where Empires are made.

Texas Forever (Harlequin Superromance, No 989)
Published in Paperback by Harlequin (May, 2001)
Author: Ginger Chambers
Average review score:

Romance fans are going to love this one
Because she has no family or any ties, nurse Claire Hannaford can easily pick up and go on location to any assignment. Thus, she is willing to assist ninety-one-year-old matriarch Mae Parker of the famous West Texas family. However, Mae and Claire agree that neither one want her to perform as an adult sitter, but she should be there in case the senior citizen has one of her spells.

When the Parker brood find out that Mae has hired a nurse, they arrive en mass to check out the newcomer hired without their blessing. Claire quickly finds that everyone seems concerned with Mae and even feels as if she is part of this wild opinionated family, ruckus and all, for the first time in her life. Worse she feels she is in love also for the first time with her patient's nephew. However, like always once this job is done Claire will move on to the next one, but this time the memories will linger forever.

TEXAS FOREVER is a warm relationship drama that stars two formidable lead characters and an extended family for support, especially Mae, a lovable gruff grandmotherly type, who lovingly interferes in the lives of her cherished ones. The story line is fun but clearly stays within category framework, but fans still will enjoy Ginger Chamber's "West Texan" entry.
